What is CEDEP?

Centro de Estudios de Derecho, Economía y Política (CEDEP, Spanish acronym for Center for Studies on Law, Economy and Politics) is a nonprofit organization in Paraguay, catalyst for the spread of modern ideas and contemporary debates among academics and higher education institutions in the country and the region. The institution aims to become agent of change to contribute, from academics, to the strengthening of the legal institutional framework and socio-economic development of the country and the region.

The CEDEP aims to promote and develop training and research in matters relating to Law, the Economy, Political Science, and other related areas. The CEDEP has carried out joint programs in Paraguay with universities and institutions such as Georgetown, Torcuato di Tella, Bologna, Heidelberg, CMI Group, with techniques and tools from Harvard Negotiation Project and others. And intends to:

  • Bring to the country main protagonists of global legal debates of high incidence in institutional quality.
  • Generate here, legal debates of high relevance to the region and the world.
  • Contribute to the legal transformation of the country and also beyond its borders.
  • Contribute to strengthening Asunción as the legal-academic regional headquarter.

The CEDEP was founded by academics of known trajectory in Paraguay and abroad and nowadays counts with the support of a network of teachers of renowned global and regional prestige.

What is ASADIP?

The American Association of International Private Law (continuation of Interamerican Association of Private International Law Professors, created in Panama in 1975), is an association that b rings together Teachers and Specialists of Private International Law in America, Europe, and Asia, and has the following objectives:

  • To reaffirm the need of including Private International Law as a mandatory (or core) subject in regular courses at Law Schools and to strengthen the teaching of the aforesaid subject in postgraduate courses;
  • To promote studies and research aimed towards the development of the discipline;
  • To promote joint studies with other branches of the Law, particularly with Public International Law, Integration Law and Communitarian Law;
  • To exchange experiences regarding Private International Law, particularly in connection with the teaching of the subject;
  • To encourage the exchange of information regarding Private International Law of every State in the region, including the law in force, the draft law rules and amendments, case law and doctrine;
  • To settle a Documentation and Information Center regarding Private International Law;
  • To cooperate with the Organization of American States regarding Inter American draft rules on the subject, as well as with other instances and universal, regional, sub regional and national institutions, both public and private, in charge of the drafting and development of Private International Law;
  • Diffuse the labor of international organizations in Private International Law matters.
